Twin Lens Reflex Cameras

KOMSOMOL

This is the first Soviet Twin Lens Reflex camera. It is important to understand that this is not strictly a twin lens reflex since there is no connection between the viewing lens and the image lens. It is really a box camer with a very large viewfinder. It was a copy of the 1937 Voigtländer "Brilliant". Unfortunately the result was a mediocre copy of a mediocre camera. It was produced from 1946 to 1950. This camera was made of Bakelite an early plastic that was very brittle.

LUBITEL

This is an upgraded version with synchronized focusing between the viewing lens and the photographing lens. This camera was made of Bakelite an early plastic that was very brittle. It was produced from 1946 to 1950.There is a rare varient labled Atlantic and apparently one labeled "Amator"(I have a case but no camera). They had a compartment for filters but they were not provided. If you find the right ones they are push on with a GOMZ stamp. They also came with a shutter release cable, again not normally found with the camera.

LUBITEL 166 Universal

The Lubitel-166 Universal has the ability to take 6X6 or by adding a mask 4.5X6 pictures. It has markings in the viewfinder and a dual window on the back. It has a new back latch. It was produced from 1983 to ?

The Lubitel-166 Universal loads a little differently than the other cameras. Both the little knob that holds the film spool and the wind knob must be pulled out to remove the film spool. The wind knob is often very tight and requires quite a bit of force to pull it out.. When installing the empty spool you need to push the little knob on the left in first. Then push in the wind knob. You may need to push in the wind knob and turn it to get it to fully seat in the slot in the take up spool.
