Liliput |
This is a pre-war miniature camera made of Bakelite. It was made in several colors red, black, and brown. It is a copy of the SIDA "EXTRA" made in Berlin. It has an optical viewfinder and a red window in the rear for film advance. This camera used unperforated 35mm film with a paper backing. It has two shutter speeds B (self timed) and M (about 25) and no aperture control. The shutter lever fires the shutter when fired in either direction. On the rear in Cyrillic are LILIPUT over the red window and GOMZ below. The tripod screw on the bottom appears to be 4mm. It had to be loaded in the dark as it used a 35mm paperbacked film. |

Maliutka |
The Maliutka was a further development of the Liliput. It used the same shutter and lens with an enlarged film back. It still had to be loaded in the dark as it used the same 35mm paperbacked film as the Liliput. |

Smena(1) |
This is a very simple viewfinder camera made of bakelite. The
camera body is basically rectangular with large bevels toward the ends. It has
a removable back and uses a film cassette to film cassette film transport. The
lens mount is square and attaches to the front of the camera with four screws.
All controls are on the shutter and lens. The lens is a 4cm f4.5 with apertures
to f22 without click stops. The shutter must be manually cocked by a flat sheet
metal lever it is then released by a small round lever or with the threaded
cable release. The shutter has speeds of 200,100,50,25,10 and B. The lens
focuses from 1.3 meters. "Smena", in Cyrillic script, is painted in white on
the viewfinder. The only variation is red or black lettering on the lens. On
the left top deck is the wind knob and on the right is an accessory shoe. The
viewfinder has a button which must be pressed to wind the film and a film
counter. On the back is the "GOMZ" symbol with an aluminum stud in the center.
The view finder window id shiny metal. There is a three eights inch tripod
bushing in the bottom. The case is made of brown plastic with "Smena" in
Cyrillic script embossed into the lens cover. |
Smena 2 |
There are only three apparent differences on this camera besides the engraving. First the rear viewfinder window is molded plastic not metal. The film advance button is a different shape and the symbols on the camera are the early LOMO symbol of a doublet lens. The camera also has flash sync and a self timer. The case is made of brown plastic with a doublet lens embossed into the lens cover. |

Smena M |
This was a modified Smena 4 produced by MMZ. The literature says that it has a self timer but this example does not. |
Smena 2M |
This is supposedly Smena-M manufactured by MMZ without a self timer. I need your help here. This is second hand information. I have never seen this camera. |

Smena 3 |
Identical to the Smena-2 but with a lever film wind. |
Smena 4 |
This is a cosmetic update to the Smena-3. Some cameras have metal name plates and some have the serial number on the metal latch for the back instead of on the lens. The case is made of brown plastic with the "GOMZ" symbol embossed into the lens cover. |
Smena 5 |
This is a cosmetic redesign with a much more modern body. The top of the body is made of gray plastic and the bottom is black plastic. There is a new lens. The case is made of brown plastic with the "GOMZ" symbol embossed into the lens cover. |

Smena 6 |
The Smena-6 adds the self timer to the Smena-5. The case is made of brown plastic with the "GOMZ" symbol embossed into the lens cover |

Smena 7 |
The Smena-7 changes the tripod bushing to one quarter and deletes the self timer. The case is made of brown plastic with the "LOMO" symbol embossed into the lens cover. |

Smena 8/Cosmic35 |
The Smena-8 adds film rewind to the series and restores the self timer. The case is made of black plastic with the "LOMO" symbol embossed into the lens cover |
Smena 8M |
This is a cosmetic update of the Smena-8. The body is a rectangular box with a hinged back. Weather symbols have been added to the lens to help set the exposure and symbols have been added to the focusing ring. The self timer has been deleted. There is a metal plate along the top of the camera in brushed chrome or black. The case is made of black plastic with "LOMO" in Cyrillic block letters embossed into the lens cover. |

Smena 35 |
This is another cosmetic redesign which has all the features of the Smena-8m. It is completely made of plastic. It has a hot shoe for flash. The case is made of blue rubberized fabric. |
Smena Rapid |
This is an upscale Smena it is much heavier due to use of metal and has a better feel. It is made to use the "Rapid" cartridge moving film from cartridge to cartridge with no rewind. this supposedly took less time, hence rapid. In use most people found that difficulty getting film far outweighed any time savings. Apparently in the Soviet Union it was the next thing to impossible. The only apparent difference is that the Smena-SL has an accessory shoe. There is a Strip of chromed metal across the top which has Smena-Rapid or Smena-SL id any of several textual variations. The shutter release is a piece of black plastic that sticks out to the right of the lens. On top of the camera is a long strip of plastic with weather symbols on it, changing the shutter speed changes the colored indicator next to the symbols. There is also a small film counter window. On the back is a rapid film wind lever and a film reminder. There is a flash receptacle on the left side. The case has a very strange oval shape and is made of black plastic. |

Smena SL |
This is a variation of the Smena rapid. |
Smena Symbol/Cosmic Symbol |
This camera combines all of the features in the Smena-Rapid in a standard 35mm camera. It looks very much like a Smena-8M with zone focusing symbols. It adds a hot shoe for flash and a black plastic tip for the rapid advance lever. The case is made of black plastic with "LOMO" in Cyrillic block letters embossed into the lens cover. |

Vesna |
This can best described as a higher quality miniature Smena. It has the features of any camera of its type, film counter, manually cocked shutter, adjustable shutter, f stops not click set, flash receptacle and plastic body. Where it differs is internally where every thing is attached to a metal casting and then a plastic body was added. It moved film from cassette to cassette. There is one variation, the original model had a red plastic name plate and the second had a gray metal name plate just like the Vesna-2 but without the 2. The case is made of brown plastic with a doublet lens embossed into the lens cover. |

Vesna 2 |
This camera had a new lens and the speeds were reduced. I need your help here. This is second hand information. I have never seen this camera. |

Vilia |
If this is not just a cosmetically different clone of the Smena Symbol as made by a different factory then it was certainly designed from the same specifications. It is interesting that this camera has a hole in the rear cover to focus the lens at the factory. This has not been seen since the early FED cameras. The case is made of brown vinyl with a zipper. |

Vilia Auto |
This is a Vilia with a CDS meter and shutter speed automation in place of manual settings. This camera comes with a black vinyl case. |

Agat 18 |
This is a small plastic half frame camera . It has a fixed shutter speed and a rotating scale around the lens to set the aperture. The lens is glass and has a focusing scale. They were produced in red, white and yellow. The camera has a glass optical viewfinder and a film speed conversion table on the back. The camera comes without a case but with a lens cap. |
Agat 18 K |
The "AGAT-18K" which has film speed markings in ISO and no film speed conversion table, there is also a small change internally. |
