Subminature Cameras

vega Manual

Vega-1

This camera is a copy of the Minolta-16 and was produced from 1960 to 1962. It features a cheap looking stamped aluminum case. This camera has the normal push pull film advance and shutter cocking.

The end of the camera that protrudes from the case has a flash jack, a shutter dial with speeds of30,60 and 200, an aperture dial with 3.5,4,5.6,8 and 11 and a lug for the strap. The original equipment supplied with these cameras was a brown leatherette case and strap, 2 filters that replace the lens cover, two film cassettes and a developing spool.

The only variation is a second model that has a different shaped pattern on the body and everything was painted instead of engraved. It is easy to tell the models apart as the first has a pebbled surface with KIEV and VEGA on the front and the second is striated with KIEV on the front and Vega on the top.

The packaging of these cameras is interesting as the first cameras came in a little cardboard box without markings and the second came in a very nice gray rectangular box with KIEV VEGA on the top.

Narciss

This is a very interesting camera as it is in effect the first miniature 16mm Single lens reflex. The narciss looks like a 35mm SLR that has been shrunk. This camera was produced from 1961 to 1965. 70% of the cameras were produced in 1964 so this is the most common year by far. The earliest cameras had a plate on the rear with the warning engraved on it.

It has an unusual interchangeable prism that is short and just barely protrudes above the body. It appears that the waist level finder was never produced. The front of the camera has a lacquer and fabric covered bottom and a chromed top. The top is engraved directly over the lens with Narciss, in either Cyrillic or English and red filled. The right side of the top deck has the rapid wind lever. This lever appears to be ratcheted but must travel through the full stroke to advance the film and cock the shutter. below the advance lever is a dial to set the frame number in the window just forward of it. The shutter speed must be set after the camera is cocked and has speeds of B,500,250,125,60,15,8,4,2 and 30. On the front of the top deck centered between the shutter dial and the wind lever is the threaded shutter release. On the left side of the top deck is the rewind knob with a film reminder and 2 flash sockets for bulbs and electronic flash. The camera has a removable back and bottom with the rewind button on the bottom.

The variations are as follows: 1.Cyrillic engraving. 2.English engraving. 3.Cream white finish instead of black. These cameras are not common with the black being the most common and the cream camera with English engraving being very rare. The interchangeable lenses for this camera are extremely rare.

These cameras were originally packaged with case, film cassettes and a developing spool. The package also included a special lens adapter that functioned as an extension tube or to adapt m42 lenses for use on the Narciss.

The eveready case for this camera has one snap and is made of brown leather with Narciss (in Cyrillic script) embossed on the top cover. There is a chrome trim strip around the bottom of the case and chrome trim at each strap attachment point.

There was a special medical Kit. The kit was a cream colored plywood box with a medical Narciss and an adapter to a microscope or endoscope.

Caution:
Do not change the speeds on this camera unless the shutter is cocked!
